Postoperative care is the care you receive after a surgical procedure. The type of postoperative care you need depends on the type of surgery you have, as well as your health history. It often includes pain management and wound care.
Postoperative care begins immediately after surgery. It lasts for the duration of your hospital stay and may continue after you’ve been discharged.
Before you have surgery, ask your doctor what the postoperative care will involve. This will give you time to prepare beforehand. Remember, it is your choice as to where you wish to receive Post-Surgical Care.
Depending on the type of surgery you have, there are many potential complications that can arise. For example, many surgeries put patients at risk of infection, bleeding at the surgical site, and blood clots caused by inactivity. Prolonged inactivity can also cause you to lose some of your muscle strength and develop respiratory complications. Staying at a facility like Rapid Recovery & Aquatic Center helps to ensure a speedy and safe recovery.
After your surgery is complete, and your anesthesia has worn off, you will be moved to your recovery destination.
Here, you will be assessed and a plan of care will be developed by your care team.
At Rapid Recovery & Aquatic Center, each patient is provided a complete care team that consists of surgical nurses, rehabilitation nurses, Champion Rehab rehabilitation staff including PT, OT, and SLP, social services, culinary experts, Therapeutic Recreation, and Spiritual Care professionals (upon request).
Your doctor will decide when you’re ready to be discharged. Remember to ask for discharge instructions before you leave. If you know that you’ll need ongoing care at home, make preparations ahead of time.
